What Information We Collect
When you register, we collect your username, email address, and a hashed (encrypted) password. When you post, your content, timestamp, and account information are stored. When you visit, basic server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) may be recorded for security and performance purposes. If you upload a profile photo, the image is stored on our server.
How We Use Your Information
To provide and operate the forum — displaying your posts, maintaining your account, and enabling you to participate in the community. To send you notifications you have opted into (such as replies to your threads). To enforce our community rules and prevent abuse. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
Cookies & Sessions
We use a session cookie to keep you logged in. This cookie contains only a session identifier — no personal data. Your theme preference (light/dark mode) is stored in your browser's local storage. We do not use tracking cookies or third-party advertising cookies.
Who Can See Your Information
Your username and posts are publicly visible to all visitors. Your email address is never displayed publicly and is only accessible to administrators. Your IP address may be visible to moderators and administrators for abuse prevention.
Data Retention
Your account and posts remain on the server until you request deletion or your account is removed by an administrator. To request deletion of your account and associated data, contact us via the contact page.
Security
Passwords are hashed using PHP's bcrypt algorithm and are never stored in plain text. The site uses HTTPS to encrypt all data in transit. File uploads are processed through a security layer that strips metadata and prevents execution of malicious files.
Children's Privacy
Keokuk Forum is intended for users 13 years of age and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has registered, please contact us so we can remove the account.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the forum after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
Contact
If you have questions about this privacy policy or your data, please use our contact page or post in the Forum Feedback board.
